Reedel, 28. juunil kell 18.00 avatakse Tartu Kunstimaja väikeses saalis Jane ja Jaanus Remmi ühisnäitus „t”.
Maanteed mõjutavad oluliselt inimeste ja loomade käitumist ning keskkonda. Iga uus tee toob sõitjaid juurde. Teedel on suur roll selles, kuidas me tajume maastikku ja maad, kuna enamus inimesi elab tänapäeval linnades ja aktiivne kogemus erinevate maastikega toimub teel liikudes vaataja positsioonilt. Jane Remmi maalid kujutavad vaateid maanteelt, Jaanus Remmi fotod vaatlevad teed ja liikumist metslooma perspektiivist, nii nagu ökoloog seda mõistab. Kohtuvad maalikunsti ja loodusteaduse, inimese ja metslooma teed.
Jane Remm selgitab: „Maanteel sõitja jaoks muutub maastik liikuvaks pildiks, vaatemänguks. Kuid see vaatemäng, mida me teel sõites näeme, on kellegi kunagiste otsuste ja tegevuse tagajärg, mõjutatud ohutusest, looduskaitse kaalutlustest, riigikaitsest, maaparandusest”. Jaanus Remm lisab: „Uurin loomade liikumisteid ning seda, kuidas ehitada ohutuid maanteid nõnda, et metsloomade rajad ei katkeks. Tuleb mõista ning kokku sobitada inimese elu-olu ja rutt, looduse kulgemine ja perspektiiv ning kaasaegse tehnoloogia võimalused. Isegi kogenud zooloogile on paras pähkel näha maailma ning maanteid ja nendega kaasnevat erinevate loomaliikide pilgu läbi.”
Avamisel esineb Sensatsiooniline Tartu Kevadbänd ja oodatakse külastajaid oma teelugusid jagama. Tule ja mõtleme koos teedest ja teel olemisest!
Jane Remm (snd 1978) on lõpetanud Tartu Ülikooli maaliosakonna ning Eesti Kunstiakadeemia interdistsiplinaarsete kunstide magistrantuuri. Alates 2004. aastast on ta töötanud Tallinnas Sally Stuudios, alates 2019 töötab Tallinna Ülikoolis. Jane Remmi looming käsitleb metsa ja muid maastikke, nende muutumist ning esitlus- ja tõlgendusvõimalusi. Viimati esines ta Tartu Kunstimajas ühisnäitusel „Puud” (2016, koos Eda Lõhmuse ning Hando ja Kristina Tammega).
Jaanus Remm (snd 1979) on saanud Tartu Ülikoolist loomaökoloogia doktorikraadi ning on töötanud alates 2008. aastast TÜ zooloogia teadurina, 2013 asutas loodusuuringute ettevõtte Rewild. Jaanus Remmi köidavad küsimused loomade levikust, ruumikasutusest ja populatsiooni struktuurist. Käesolev on Jaanuse debüütnäitus.

On Friday, 28 June at 6 p.m. Jane and Jaanus Remm’s joint exhibition “t” will be opened in the small gallery of the Tartu Art House.
Jane and Jaanus Remm’s exhibition “t” explores the effect of highways on people and animals.
Highways greatly influence the behaviour and environment of people and animals. Every new road increases the number of drivers. Roads have an important role in how we perceive the landscape and land itself since most people currently live in the cities and an active experience with various landscapes takes place while travelling on the roads from the position of a viewer. Jane Remm’s paintings depict the views from the highway and Jaanus Remm’s photos observe the road and the motion from the perspective of a wild animal as an ecologist understands this. The ways of painting and natural sciences and the roads of people and animals intersect.
Jane Remm explains: “For a driver on the highway, the landscape turns into a moving picture, entertainment. But the entertainment that we see from the road is the result of earlier decisions, it is influenced by safety, preservation of nature, national defence and land improvement.” Jaanus Remm adds: “I investigate the trajectories of animals and how to build safe highways in a manner that the paths of the wild animals would not be interrupted. We must understand and combine the everyday fast-paced life of people, the progression and perspective of nature and today’s technological possibilities. Even for experienced zoologists it is hard to see the world, the highways and everything associated with them through the eyes of different animal species.”
The band Sensatsiooniline Tartu Kevadbänd will perform at the opening and guests are invited to share there own stories about being on the road. Come and join the conversation about roads and journeys!
Jane Remm (b 1978) has graduated from the Painting Department of the University of Tartu and from the master’s programme of the Interdisciplinary Arts Department of the Estonian Academy of Arts. Since 2004, she has worked in Tallinn at the Sally Studio and since 2019, she is working at the Tallinn University. Jane Remm’s oeuvre looks at forests and other landscapes, their transformations and means of presenting and interpreting them. Her previous exhibition in the Tartu Art House was “Trees” (2016, with Eda Lõhmus, Hando Tamm and Kristina Tamm).
Jaanus Remm (b 1979) has a PhD in animal ecology from the University of Tartu. Since 2008, he has been working at the university as a researcher of zoology and in 2013 he founded the nature studies company Rewild. Jaanus Remm is interested in questions about the distribution of animals, their use of space and the structure of populations. This is the exhibition debut of Jaanus.
The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Cultural Endowment of Tartu and it is open until 21 July.
