Näitus käsitleb kodu, selle mõiste subjektiivsust ja tema enda suhet sellega.
Kunstniku projekti aluseks on tema emakodu, kus elavad tema vanaema, kelle praegune elu piirdub peamiselt koduga; ema, kelle elu kulgeb peamiselt väljaspool koduseinu, ja tema ise, kes on küll viimastel aastatel elanud omaette, oma ajutistes kodudes ning on taas uude kodusse kolimas. Kunstnikul on ambivalentne positsioon: ta vaatab seda kodu seest-, aga ka väljastpoolt, ta on tegevuse, protsessi sees, kuid samas kontrollib seda.
Kunstnik alustas kodumõiste uurimist inventuuri tegemisega ehk siis kõigi kodus olevate asjade ülelugemise ja süstematiseerimisega. Inventuuri käigus sai talle selgeks, et koduasjad ei allu üldkehtivale loogikale ning nii-öelda teadusliku süstematiseerimisega pole seal midagi peale hakata. Kodumõiste käsitlemisel hakkab mängima kaasa isiklik tasand – isiklikud assotsiatsioonid, mälutasandid, väljamõeldud maailm jne.
Väljapaneku pealkiri osutab asjade kiretule ülelugemisele, loendamisele, kuid inventariseerijate erinev hääletämber, esitusviis ja tausta(kodu)hääled viitavad mitmete tegelikkuste kooseksisteerimisele ja isegi kokkupõrkumisele. Kuigi ka lugemise esmane tähendus – info ja tähenduse omandamine – viitab isegi nii neutraalse tegevuse nagu inventariseerimine sõltuvusele kultuurikontekstist.
Lewis Carrolli Imedemaa Alice’i seiklustele omane simulaakrum ja simulatsioon (kui kasutada Baudrillard’i) tulevad esile näitust sisse juhatavas majafotos (ehk koha määratlemises, tegelikkusele osutamises) ja videoinstallatsioonis. Kunstniku lapsepõlve kuuluv nukumaja on esitatud pärismajana, masinat (mehaanilist televiisorit) meenutavas kastis eksponeeritud videos ilmub kunstnik vaataja ette, kuid taas ambivalentsel viisil: luubi abil suurendatud videopilt osutab selle aluseks olnud tegelikkuse väiksusele (teise reaalsusesse kuulumisele), kuid pildist peegelduvad galeriiaknad seotusele praeguse reaalsusega.
Installatsioon – laud, kirjutusmasin ja koduasjade täieliku nimestikuga paberirull pärinevad majast, kus inventuur tehti, kuid nimestiku täielikkus ei vasta enam tõele, sest kodu, elav organism eksisteerib vaid muutuvana. Joonistatud majaplaan annab võimalikult täpselt edasi tegelikkust, sinna lisatud tsinkograafias trükitud tekst mängib isikliku, n-ö siseringi (Bibi ring), kuid ka laiemale üldsusele tuntud, n-ö välisringi teabega (“Nukitsamehest” võetud “Üks on laisk ja teine loll, mina pean üksi rabama”).
Kunstnikuraamatuski on autor püüdnud olla võimalikult objektiivne: ta on võtnud kodumõiste Eesti keele seletavast sõnaraamatust, kuid mõistnud, et see ei vasta tema enda arusaamale ja sellele paigale, kus inventuur tehti, on ta lisanud sinnagi isikliku tasandi.

Ulla Juske “Grand Reading”
Ulla Juske’s exhibition “Grand Reading” looks at the meaning of home, the subjectivity of the concept and her own relationship to it.
The project is based on the artist’s mother’s home whose current residents are her grandmother, whose life now is mostly confined to the limits of home; her mother, whose life mainly unravels outside the walls of her home, and herself – having lived independently in the past recent years in her temporary homes, she is now moving back. The artist has an ambivalent position: she looks at her home from the inside as well as from the outside, she is in the action, in the process but she is controlling the process.
The artist began her study of the concept of home with an inventory, e.g. she counted and systemized every object in her home. In the process of doing so she discovered that things people have at home cannot be cauterized in a logical and there is no point in trying to systemize them according to a scientific rule. What emerges in dealing with the concept of home is the personal level – personal associations, levels of memory, a world invented etc.
The title of the exhibition (in Estonian the word “lugemine” means reading and also counting) alludes to the passionless counting and naming of the things found at home, but the different tone of voice of the ones who are conducting the inventory; their manner of speaking and the background noise at home reveal the co-existence of several realities and even their collision.
The simulacrum and simulation (if we allude to Baudrillard) characteristic of the adventures of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland are best revealed in the photo of the pink house (defining the place) and in the video installation. The rabbit house from the artist’s childhood is exhibited as a real house; the video piece is shown in the red box that reminds a mechanical television and can be watched through a magnifying glass. In the video the artist appears again in an ambivalent way: looking through the magnifying glass and the reflection of the gallery windows refers to two different realities.
Installation – a desk, typewriter and the long list of all the items where found during the inventory in the house. The list of all these items is incomplete, because a home is a living organism which is constantly changing. The drawings of the house plan are reflecting the reality accurately, the artist has included that has a personal meaning (Bibi’s roundabout) and well-known Estonian saying (from the movie “Nukitsamees” “One is lazy and the other stupid, I am the only one that has to do all the work”)
In the accompanying printed materials the artist is trying be objective: she has taken the notion of home from Estonian Language Dictionary, but has understood that it doesn’t apply to her and to the place where the inventory took place and therefore has included the personal level to the book.
